When a retail space opened up across from my apartment building, I decided to imagine a brand for what I wished would move in. Hence, Study Hall Coffee is a cafe and stationary store in the north Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle.
The challenge of this project was to create a brand that could apply to more than just food or just retail, but both. The brand ties the two together using a nostalgic theme that calls back to academia and the calm, goal-oriented vibe of a space devoted to organization and learning.
Brand touchpoints are inspired by businesses I admire in the area that have created a sense of community with a brand identity customers want to represent in their own lives, whether on the side of their coffee cup or on the tote bag they carry their laptop in. In Seattle, you can tell a lot about a person by which cafe they’re a regular at. I wanted Study Hall to be one geared toward being visually represented by its customer base, which in all likelihood would be mostly designers.
