Director Jen Easterly of the United States Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) selected my design proposal for their 2021 annual report and I was more than happy to lead the design team in building this project.
The previous year’s report was described as overcomplicated, busy, and difficult to look at. Coming right after 2020’s pandemic, it was clear that the department had tons of important information to share and it was imperative that that information was clear and easily digestible. My design for the 2021 report focused heavily on simplicity, clean lines, and clear visual hierarchy, tying the data and information in the report together with simple and attractive illustrations.
After developing the initial look and feel, I led our design team in expanding the styling and layout to the remaining 20+ pages in the report, assisting with the more complex spreads and focusing on consistency across illustrations.
Overall, the project was a huge success, with the report being quoted as one of the most attractive the agency had seen in years.
